How do you like your Avocado? Savory or Sweet?

Avocado Cheesecake with Creme Chantilly, Berry Compote and Fresh Berries

Avocado, one of natures power fruit. Google it, you'll find all the nutritional benefits this humble fruit will offer. Read further about the fruit because there is more to know..Be surprised! But I will leave those facts to other blogs or other avenues. On a personal stand point it is always good to know where your food came from, or what they looked like before they were peeled, how they are grown, harvested, cooked, canned, etc. I've started doing this habit after I saw a Quinoa Flower. Very interesting! Let's be Educated Consumers!

Moving on, most people only know avocado from their guacamole, or chicken sandwich, or salads or sushi. Since these are savory applications of the fruit some tend to feel strange of the idea, fact or uses of the fruit in a dessert, or the fruit by itself, eaten raw, added to ice cream and turned into a smoothie. Seriously. This is not a post about bizzare foods (I admire Chef Andrew Zimmern), it's learning how to use avocado in a different way. Avocado is a fruit. No need to be scared for those who never knew. It's great on fruit salads, with maple sugar, brown sugar, or chocolate syrup.

So how about making it into a Cheesecake? Sounds even more intriguing! This dessert is like a mousse made of the fruit puree, lemon juice, cream cheese, creme fraiche, vanilla extract, gelatin and powdered sugar. The taste is subtle, deceptive, and delightful. Pairing it with a compote, sweetened cream and all the garnishes tease your palette - it's creamy, slightly sweet, airy, smooth, slight crunch from the graham crust.. It's one good nutritious dessert, I'd say!

Try it!

  1. Savoury AND sweet! Smothered in onions, bell peppers and cilantro; or as how we PINOYS are wont to: milk and sugar, iced-drop, ice-candy, or avocado shake! Ah Basta! =) -Mai
